The objective of our work was to evaluate quality of life among the elderly in Tunisia and to detect the main factors affecting this quality of life. This was a prospective descriptive study over 3 years. Patients aged 65 years or older living at home who agreed to participate in our study were included. We used a questionnaire specific to the elderly and validated internationally, the LEIPAD questionnaire. One hundred participants (70 women and 30 men) were included in our study, with an average age of 74.3 ± 10.4 years. The measure of functional independence score was 82/126 on average. Sexual functioning, life satisfaction and physical functioning were the most adversely affected dimensions with total scores of respectively 98, 66 and 64. Cognitive functioning and depression–anxiety yielded the lowest scores with respectively 35 and 40. To improve the quality of life of the elderly in Tunisia, a national strategy should be established, with priority given to the most markedly affected dimensions, and an optimization the least affected dimensions.
