Self Help Plus

About the Project:
The Self Help Plus (SH+) program is a group-based stress management course developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to help reduce psychological distress in adults affected by adversity. As part of the “Support for the Social Recovery of Vulnerable Groups in Beirut” project, SH+ provides practical stress management skills through pre-recorded audio materials and culturally tailored guides, making it accessible and impactful across diverse settings.
Project Objectives:
IDRAAC, as the implementing partner, collaborated with the National Mental Health Programme and coordinated with the International Rescue Committee under the financing of the Lebanon Financing Facility, administered by the World Bank. The objectives included:
- Training facilitators through a four-day intensive program.
- Empowering these facilitators to train additional providers to deliver SH+ interventions.
- Extending stress management skills to vulnerable communities across Lebanon.
In addition to in-person sessions, a five-episode podcast series was produced in Lebanese dialect to encourage self-reflection and enhance the learning experience, reaching even more individuals in need.
Where It Was Implemented:
The SH+ project was implemented across North Lebanon, South Lebanon, Bekaa, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon, targeting communities severely impacted by economic, social, and psychological challenges.
Impact in Numbers:
- 20 facilitators trained to lead SH+ interventions.
- 151 providers trained to deliver SH+ across the regions.
- 471 beneficiaries directly received the intervention, gaining tools to manage stress and improve psychological well-being.
